Mixicano is a padel tournament format where every team is always composed of one man and one woman. Round 1 is random. After that, men and women are ranked separately by points and paired by rank, so the top man and top woman play together, the second-ranked man and woman play together, and so on, exactly like Mexicano but always gender balanced.
After every round, men and women are ranked separately by total points. The highest-ranked man and highest-ranked woman become one team, the second-ranked man and woman become the next team, and so on. Court 1 then plays team 1 against team 2, court 2 plays team 3 against team 4, the same house style Mexicano uses.
In regular Americano, partners rotate on a fixed schedule regardless of gender. In Mixicano, every team always has exactly one man and one woman, and after round 1 the pairing is based on live standings rather than a fixed rotation. This makes Mixicano both gender balanced and increasingly competitive.
You need at least 2 men and 2 women (4 players total), up to 32 players in total. With unequal numbers of men and women, players rotate onto a bye on a fair schedule each round.
